The gospel teaches that the only thing that counts for righteousness is our faith in what God has promised. You can be a dues paying member of your local church and very active in the programs there and still be unrighteous, according to the scriptures.
Many church people, in fact, have positive feelings toward God, are decent people, and are involved with their church but the just shall live by faith. It is very common to hear a church person challenge the promise of God - even mock it. Such people are lost, despite their church involvement or their otherwise nice personality.
How many of the promises are we obliged to believe? The short answer is, "all of them". Think about it. If you believe God for heaven when you die but you teach that all the other promises are not true then you're not righteous. It's all or nothing. You cannot call God a liar and get away with it.
